Resilience
Almost midwinter — frost and darkness in abundance.
It's great to watch the frosty haze over Northwest Bay; it triggers memories of my origins in the depths of the Arctic.
We used to say up there, "There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad preparation and clothing."
Midwinter is such a brilliant time: days will soon begin to grow lighter and longer.
This makes me reflect on resilience and how it relates to life — our ability to face hardship, bounce back, grow and prosper.
Resilience can mean different things depending on context: grit, adaptability, preparedness, durability.
Our capacity to endure and manage complex challenges depends on our mental and physical resources as well as our level of preparation.
Those who demonstrate strong resilience often plan well, practice regularly, and choose environments and people that support their growth.
We are all influenced by those around us; if the environment doesn't meet our needs, it can undermine our resilience.
Fitness is as much a mental and psychological pursuit as it is physical — in many ways even more important when it comes to resilience.
How do you look after your resilience?
What strategies do you use to strengthen your capacity and grit?
I would love to hear from you and perhaps have a chat about what you need, what you want, and what you dream of.
