Be Right or Have a Relationship

What does this statement even mean, does it resonate at all with you?

In relation to yourself, those closest to you, friends, work colleagues, other……..

Sticking to what you believe in is not wrong necessarily, however when in a conversation with someone not sharing your view - would you ever make them wrong in their beliefs?

What if you were both right?

What if the perspective you and the others have is the difference?

Maybe there are some parts in the situation that are partly hidden from you?

I want to invite you to consider an object, lets do an empty toilet roll core to explain.

We all know what it is and what it looks like….!

Hold it up and look at it from two angles, from the side and then from the end.

The same object looks like a circle as well as a rectangle, depending on the perspective.

In life there are much more complex matters which we have a view on, based on our perspective.

In this example, if you can only see the end of the object you would be absolutely sure that it is a circular object (and you would not be wrong)

If the other person could only see the side view, he would hold the same perception of reality etc.

In fact, you would both be right!

A key here is to take a deep breath when being totally sure that you are Right (and the other person Wrong):

Stop and ask yourself the question:

Is it possible that the other person’s perception of reality is equally valid as yours?

Is it possible that the difference sits in perspective, what is seen and experienced by the other….?

If that was the case, what might now possible………?

I would love to hear your thoughts, what comes up for you?
