Storm Looming
There is something about wild weather, something alarming and something comforting at the same time.
The alarming bit is often related to the risk of damage and unforeseen incidents and impacts.
As humans we are reminded of our insignificance and that there are forces at play much more powerful than we are.
The comforting things are exactly the same, but with a different perspective.
Nature is Gentle and Wild, it is everything. And we are well advised to observe, respect and learn from nature.
Of course there a direct parallels to the span of conditions and emotions in our lives.
Our minds and lives can be very calm and soothing, or wild and stressful with everything else between.
What ever you are experiencing at any moment of time, will pass. It will change.
Love, conflict, collaboration, support, gratitude, resentment, rage, happiness… Always transitioning and changing…
As humans we continuously strive for control with our lives and circumstances, if the current situation is not to our satisfaction there is a problem which must be fixed…
At some stage of our development (especially the western cultures), we decided or rather insisted that humans are above and in control of Nature and the Environment…….
It is exhausting, and to be quite frank with you - it is in the long run futile.
Realizing that everything as a rule is constantly changing, and that there are endless variables which will make sure that whatever controls or reassurances we identify and activate we are never truly in control.
Certainty is an aspiration, but will never truly be achievable!
We never were, and we never will be fully in control!
What does this mean, what on earth am I getting at….?
Like the weather, this observation is alarming and comforting at the same time - would you agree?
A point in my learning and coaching is to realize and attempt to accept that you and I are actually not separate and in control, we are all part of the unpredictable and fantastic thing called nature and environment.
There is a possibility of allowing ourselves to reduce the stress and anxieties we often experience in the quest for Control and Certainty, what if all we can do is make sure we are as fit and prepared for the unknown as we can be?
This is a pretty darned powerful position to be in when embarking on any Coaching and Development journey, seeking Fitness and Preparedness - Resilience!
